Asort Founders — Roshan Singh Bisht & Leadership
The Vision, the People, and the Story Behind India’s First Co-Commerce Platform
QUICK OVERVIEW
Asort was co-founded in 2011 by Roshan Singh Bisht (CEO) and Natasha Singh. Ambrish Ranjan joined as Director. All three are first-generation entrepreneurs who built India’s first co-commerce platform specifically to serve people with no access to capital, formal training, or business infrastructure.
Why Asort Was Founded — The Problem the Founders Saw
In 2011, India’s entrepreneurship narrative was dominated by a specific kind of founder: urban, educated, connected, and — critically — capitalised. The startups getting attention, funding, and media coverage were built by people who already had access to resources. The question Roshan Singh Bisht and Natasha Singh asked was one almost no one else in the ecosystem was asking: what does an entrepreneurial opportunity look like for someone who has none of that?
The gap they identified was specific. India had — and has — tens of millions of people with genuine entrepreneurial drive, strong personal networks, and real ambition. What they lacked was not capability or motivation. What they lacked was access: to capital, to business training, to supply chains, to logistics infrastructure. Every existing business model required something they didn’t have.
E-commerce required seller registration, product inventory, and logistics setup. Franchises required capital investment. Direct selling required kit purchases and had income structures that often rewarded recruitment over performance. The founders saw an opportunity: build a model that removes every one of those access barriers simultaneously, while still creating a genuine business opportunity that scales with effort.
That model became Asort. That insight became co-commerce.
Roshan Singh Bisht — Co-Founder & CEO
Roshan Singh Bisht is the strategic architect of the Asort model and serves as CEO. His central belief — that empowerment begins when individuals take ownership of their own growth rather than waiting for jobs to be given to them — shapes every design decision in the co-commerce platform.
Bisht’s most consequential strategic decision was geographic: the deliberate, early expansion into Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities rather than following the metro-first playbook of most Indian consumer startups. While other founders were building for Bengaluru and Mumbai, Asort was building for Kanpur, Patna, Indore, Coimbatore, Dehradun — the cities and towns where the untapped entrepreneurial energy, the trust-based community networks, and the unmet demand for flexible income opportunities all existed in greatest concentration.
That geographic bet paid off. Asort’s strongest partner density and most sustained growth rates are in Tier 2 and Tier 3 India — exactly where it was designed to work best.
Ambrish Ranjan — Director
Ambrish Ranjan joined the Asort leadership as Director and brought the strategic and operational depth that translated the co-commerce concept from a founding insight into a scalable, disciplined business model. His contribution lies in the architecture of the earn plan, the rank system, and the operational infrastructure that allows a 10 lakh-partner network to function coherently across 20+ states.
| The decision to build for people without resources wasn’t charity — it was strategic. The largest underserved market in India isn’t the metropolitan middle class. It’s the hundreds of millions of people in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities who have ambition, community, and no infrastructure to build on.— Asort Leadership Philosophy |
What the Founders Built — 14 Years Later
In 2025, Asort operates with 10 lakh+ active partners across 20+ states, 7 in-house brands, and a community infrastructure that has trained and mentored millions of first-time entrepreneurs. None of the founding team came from wealth, institutional backing, or established business families. They were first-generation entrepreneurs who built a first-generation platform for first-generation business owners.
The co-commerce model they invented in 2011 has been validated by 14 years of continuous operation, a pandemic-period growth story that contradicts every conventional expectation, and a partner network that spans urban, semi-urban, and rural India in proportions that no other commerce platform in the country can claim.
The measure of a founder’s vision is whether the thing they built for still exists and still needs what they built. India’s underserved entrepreneurial class — the homemaker, the student, the small-town youth with ambition and no infrastructure — still exists in hundreds of millions. Asort’s founders built for them in 2011. The platform continues to serve them today.
